Arnold came across a cotton tree one day, when his friend explained that it was unusual to see both flowers and leaves on the tree at the same time. Rather, it was an anomaly due to global warming. As our winters get warmer, cotton trees fail to shed their leaves, which hinders their blossoming in spring. Taking this as a warning from mother nature about climate change, Arnold decided to write a piece to represent the voice of the cotton tree.

The main focus of this composition was not the melody, but a narrative represented by rhythmic patterns, telling the story of flowers blossoming and falling, and fluffs of cotton fibres floating in the sky. Following the introduction, the piece is made up of three sections: from 12 beats, to 11 beats, then finally 10 beats, representing the irreversible change, or damage, in the environment because of human activities. The piano loop in the higher register symbolizes the existence and influence of machinery and industrial activities, echoing the warning from Nature.

某天，Arnold 經過一棵木棉樹，同伴指出，花和葉同時在樹上出現並非常見的情況，而是因為氣候暖化而出現的反常現象。原來當冬天越來越暖，木棉不落葉，在春天開花時更顯得困難重重。知道了這是自然界對氣候暖化發出的一個警號，便想到寫一首代木棉樹發聲的作品。

這首作品的重心並非放在旋律之上，而是以模擬花開花落、棉絮飄揚的節奏圖案來說故事。序奏後，作品主體分為三個主要部分。由12拍開始，後轉為11拍，再過渡到最後的10拍，意味環境因為人類活動而產生不可逆轉的變化，甚至是損失。反覆循環播放(loop)的高音鋼琴，既象徵人類工業活動、機器等等的存在與影響，同時亦代表自然界所發出的警號。(AF)
