As an instrumental group, many of our works are of rather substantive length. The title track from the "Telescope" album is such a piece, running for more than 10 minutes. To help new audience digest this hefty work, we prepared this single edit, which is a user-friendly 5-minute version.

After a short introduction by the xiao and the saxophone, the single edit dives into the main theme, which forms the latter half of the original version. In fact, Arnold first composed this part of the piece, before moving on to writing the other sections.

The rhythmic main theme begins with the pizzicato bass line of the cello. Omitted are the previous movements, which present pictures of the universe still in chaos, the loneliness of disoriented earthlings, and their fictional construction of celestial and horoscopic ideas since the ancient times. This main theme signifies the replacement of pure imagination with scientific observation through the telescope, which enabled humans to see the true picture which we had long desired.

Humans are small and insignificant, but our curiosity for the unknown pushed us to explore the universe, and to move boldly towards the unknown – as signified by the energetic ending of the piece.


作為一隊純音樂組合，「海島小輪」有不少的長篇作品。新專輯《TELESCOPE》的主題作品《天文鏡》本來就是一首超過10分鐘的長篇作品，要消化整首樂曲的內容並不容易。但為了把這首樂曲介紹給聽眾，我們特別製作了這個5分鐘長的單曲版本，也可以視為作品的入門篇。

前奏的30秒，洞簫和色士風分別響起之後，便進入本來屬於樂曲後半的「主段」。作曲的成員Arnold 當初也是先寫成這個部分，才創作樂曲的其他環節。

節奏明快的主段，由大提琴以撥彈(Pizzicato)的低音展開。之前省略了的部分，分別代表各種不同的宇宙觀，包括起初的混沌、人類面對廣大星空產生的孤寂，以及透過幻想而出現的星座傳說等等。至於單曲中出現的主段，則表達人類開始以觀察代替想像，慢慢把自己渴求的真相看清。

人類縱然渺小，但對未知的一股盼望，驅使了他們對遙遠的宇宙展開探索，富有動感的尾段就是表達這種邁向未知的移動。
